QUADRANGLE

TFPF 2009 RECIPIENT

$2,000 for post-production and distribution

Quadrangle is a documentary about one couple’s involvement in a group marriage in the early 1970s. Coming out of the era of free love and struggling with the monotony of marriage and suburban life, Deanna and Paul began swapping partners with another married couple. The two couples moved into one home, along with their children. The foursome thought they had discovered an alternative to divorce, a brave new world that could become the way of the future. Instead it unraveled, ending in an ugly breakup. Both couples divorced and married the opposite partners from the foursome, but they were bound by the children they shared. Deanna and Paul’s separate interviews appear side-by-side in split-screen, overlapping to craft a unique narrative form.
