The Austin Film Society is very proud to announce the recipients of its 2007 Texas Filmmakers' Production Fund, which this year gave away a record $150,000 to emerging Texas film and video artists.
The largest TFPF grant ever awarded went to June Lee, an MFA graduate from the University of Texas Radio-TV-Film Department, who received $20,000 toward production of STARFISH. The film, June's first narrative feature, will follow a middle-aged ex-gangster as he tries to make amends with his mother after eight years behind bars.
Other notable 2007 recipients include Laura Harrison of Houston, who received $15,000 for the second year in a row for ANT, the first-ever documentary about the renegade '70s artist collective Ant Farm, best known for the world-famous Cadillac Ranch outside of Amarillo. Two documentarians from Austin received awards larger than $10,000. First-time recipient Mitch Schultz received $12,000 for DMT: THE SPIRIT MOLECULE, about the science behind the mind-altering drug DMT, and Heather Courtney received $11,000 for WHERE SOLDIERS COME FROM, about young National Guard recruits in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
In all, 21 projects received grants this year. For a complete list of the 2007 TFPF recipients, visit http://www.austinfilm.org/for_filmmakers/texas-filmmakers-production-fun...
