AFS & Team TexFX

This weekend saw a big milestone for three members of the AFS staff:
Director of Development Shannon Moody (left), Texas Film Hall of Fame Assistant Norma Saldivar and yours truly all completed the AT&T Austin Half-Marathon (I left my medal at home, so Norma was nice enough to share for the picture). That's 13.1 miles, folks. Like, all at once.
We trained and ran with Team TexFX, which is the brain-child of visual effects wiz (and all-around nice guy) Gary Walker. For the third year in a row, he has put together a team of film professionals here in Austin to train for the marathon and to raise money for the Austin Children's Shelter. This year, the 31 team members raised over $21,000 for the Shelter, which provides a safe place for abused and neglected children to live as they move to foster care.
It was an incredible (and painful) experience for all of us. Incredible not just because we pulled off something we never thought we could, but also because we helped out an organization that really makes a difference in some very needy kids' lives.
Wanna see how we did? Our chip times are here: Shannon, Norma, Bryan.
