Body:
The Austin Film Society is proud to present the World Premiere of Matthew McConaughey and his production company j.k. livin’s newest film SURFER, DUDE on Wednesday, September 3 at The Paramount Theater (713 Congress Avenue). McConaughey, along with writer/director S.R. Bindler (HANDS ON A HARD BODY) and other cast members will attend the screening. The film is being distributed theatrically by Anchor Bay Entertainment and will open in Austin on Friday, September 5.
In SURFER, DUDE, longboarding soul-surfer Steve Addington (Matthew McConaughey) returns to Malibu for the summer to find his cool hometown vibe corrupted. New sponsorship demands Addington to expand into Virtual Reality Video Games and Reality TV. Unwilling to participate in this new digital reality, he chooses to spend his summer surfing his home break. But in a twist-of-fate, the waves go flat and stay flat. Out of money, his expense accounts canceled, and betrayed by his buddies, Addington is backed into a harsh corner. He must endure the insanity that comes with no waves or give into “the Man” and his new, reality-altering machines.
Aided by his manager (Woody Harrelson), his mentor (Scott Glenn), his guardian angel (Willie Nelson) and his summer lover (Alexie Gilmore), Addington has a chance of keeping his cool, but it’s not going to be easy. The dude needs a wave, and there's never been a drought like this.
Green carpet arrivals will begin at 6:15 PM. Press wishing to cover the green carpet MUST obtain credentials by emailing Agnes Varnum at agnes@austinfilm.org. No admittance to the green carpet area without credentials.

Through Austin Studios, which AFS opened in 2000 in partnership with the City of Austin, AFS helps attract film development and production to Austin and Texas. Gala film premieres and the annual Texas Film Hall of Fame Awards raise funds as well as awareness of the impact of film on economy and community.
