After School Film Program
Education
AFS teaches after school film workshops at between five and eight underserved elementary, middle and high schools each year. AFS FILM CLUB students learn to analyze, explore, and create movies through focus areas ranging from stop-motion and computer animation to screenwriting and digital filmmaking.
With attention to artistic and personal development, the AFS Film Club engages young people in safe, fun and nurturing environment where they can develop and share their creative voices. Through mentorship, instructors strive to teach young storytellers how to use film as a tool of empowerment and self-exploration.
Students take part in a variety of film society activities, such as Austin Studio tours, discussions with visiting filmmakers, and attendance at select feature film premieres and Essential Cinema screenings.
This school year, we have programs at the following schools:
- Harris Elementary
- Pearce Middle School
- Webb Middle School
- Fulmore Middle School
- Reagan High School
- Travis High School
- Ann Richards School For Young Leaders
