LOVE IN THOUGHTS (WAS NUTZT DIE LIEBE IN GEDANKEN)
Screenings | The Third Wave: Contemporary German Cinema
|
Austin Premiere
College buddies Paul and Günther have different dreams – working-class Paul hopes to be a writer, while wealthy Günther wants to get drunk and laid and right away. It is Germany in 1927 and the two are able to spend an idyllic weekend with friends in a country home, where alcohol fuels their poetic, philosophical, and emotional excesses. Paul is deeply in love with Günther’s sister Hilde, but she is more interested in her brother’s former lover, Hans. They could all be seen as vapid and beautiful young things of the 20s, but when a romantic suicide pact turns into reality, they become victims of their own illusions about life. -- Chale Nafus, Director of Programming, Austin Film Society |
