Untitled John Bryant Project
Narratives-In-Progress | Screenings
|
Presented by Sixth Street Films post-screening discussion moderated by Kyle Henry
Jason comes home for Christmas and his asshole brother, Todd, tells him why he's Dad's "least favorite" child. It's a dark family secret, and it sends our hero on a hilarious cross-country journey to find out the truth about himself and his family. About the filmmaker: John Bryant's adventures—real and legendary—were influential in creating the archetypal Western hero of American folklore. In American popular culture, he is remembered as one of the foremost early frontiersmen, even though the mythology often overshadows the historical details of his life. And he happens to be a modern day filmmaker as well --- two of his most recent works, the short films OH MY GOD and MOMMA'S BOY, both premiered at the Sundance Film Festival (OH MY GOD, 2005, MOMMA'S BOY 2006). OH MY GOD went on to win the Prix de Canal+ Award at Europe’s largest short film festival, the 2005 Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival – and Film Threat named it the best short film of 2005. About the Narratives-in-Progress series: Filmmakers screen their "rough cuts" (or "near-fine-cuts") for a filmmaker-member audience, and receive constructive comments and feedback. The meetings will be moderated by experienced Austin film professionals. Participants will be expected to agree to confidentiality regarding the film and the comments received, as the films to be screened have not been finalized. |
