AFS Director of Outreach & Education, Christian Raymond, was honored at the ceremony for the Dewey Winburne Community Service Award, which took place at the Firehouse Lounge.
According to SXSW, “the award celebrates the vision that technology is society’s most effective tool to level the playing field… candidates must be involved with a grass-roots effort to use convergent media to better the lives of this community’s less fortunate citizens." Dewey Winburne served as one of the original co-founders of the event that we now know as the SXSW Interactive Festival.
A special congratulations to Lodis Rhodes of the LBJ School, the winner of the 2008 Dewey award along with all of the eight other honorees. Rhodes founded the Austin Learning Academy and Austin Free-Net, strengthening ties between UT and East Austin.
