13TH ANNUAL TEXAS FILM HALL OF FAME AWARDS
Renée Zellweger
Few modern actresses possess the classic, beguiling charm that comes so naturally to Renée Zellweger. The Katy, Texas-born daughter of Swiss and Norwegian immigrant parents discovered her talent for acting while still in high school, a pursuit of the heart she continued with classes at the University of Texas. Uncredited roles and small parts in indie films such as DAZED AND CONFUSED (1993) led to the lead in the cult classic LOVE AND A .45 (1994) and THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD (1995). Yet her role as the endearing Dorothy Boyd in Cameron Crowe’s JERRY MAGUIRE (1996) made Zellweger the silver screen name to remember, one that took top billing in a strings of hit films that included BRIDGET JONES’ DIARY (2001), WHITE OLEANDER (2002), CHICAGO (2002), DOWN WITH LOVE (2003), and the role that won her an Academy Award, the rough-hewn Ruby Thewes in COLD MOUNTAIN (2003). Her screen presence shines luminous; Renée Zellweger always had us at “hello.”
