The Austin Film Society presents a special fundraising screening of the award-winning drama WOLF, directed by Texas filmmaker Ya'Ke Smith. There will be a Q&A session with the director following the screening. Members of the cast Mikala Gibson, Nadine Mozon, and Euguene Lee will be in attendance along with Yuta Yamaguchi (Director of Photography), Ralph Lopez (Producer) and Derek Nixon (Producer).
The proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the Texas Filmmakers' Production Fund, a program that has awarded 451 grants, totalling over $1.15 million in cash and over $100 K in goods and services to 351 projects.
WOLF tells the story of a family that is shaken to the core when they discover their son has been molested by their pastor. As they struggle to deal with the betrayal, their son heads towards a total mental collapse because of his love for his abuser. The film stars Eugene Lee (LACKAWANNA BLUES, COACH CARTER) Irma P. Hall (THE LADYKILLERS, COLLATERAL) and newcomers Mikala Gibson, Shelton Jolivette and Jordan Cooper.

Ya’Ke Smith's films have received world-wide acclaim, screening and winning awards at over 80 film festivals, including The Cannes International Film Festival, The American Black Film Festival, The Austin Film Festival, The DC Shorts Film Festival and the Urbanworld Film Festival. His films have also been broadcast on HBO, Showtime, BET and PBS. He is the recipient of a Director’s Guild of America Student Film Award and a Student Academy Award Nomination. His latest short KATRINA'S SON has screened in over 40 film festivals and has been honored with twelve awards. The film is now eligible to be nominated for the 2012 Academy Award for Short Filmmaking. Ya’Ke graduated with his M.F.A from the University of Texas at Austin’s Film Program and is now an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Arlington.
