Summer @ Austin studios

Answers to some of Your most common questions:

  1. Who can attend the camps? Anyone between the ages of 9 - 18!  Each camp has a specific age range to support a more engaging and effective learning environment.

  2. Do you need to have filmmaking experience? No. The Summer @ Austin Studios camps are made for students with all levels of experience.  We welcome everyone!

  3. How much do the camps cost? $275 per child per camp for Members.  $325 per child per camp for Non-Members.

  4. How do I get the member discount? If you are already a member, you must be logged-in to your netcommunity account.  If you are not a member, you can join today!  Memberships take one buisness day to process.

The membership can be under your name or your son or daughter's name to qualify for the discount.  Consider getting your child the Student Filmmaker Membership, which will give him or her benefits year-round!

  5. Can I register my son or daughter for more than one camp? Of course!  As long as they fit the age range, they are good to go!  Return to the Summer Camp descriptions page to read about other camp options.>>

  6. What do I need to do to register my child for camp?  Step One: Register Online using a credit card, or by mail with a check or cash.  Step Two: Complete and return a Release and Medical Information form.  This can be found here.

  7. Where are the camps held? All summer camps are held at the our Austin Studios production facility at 1901 E. 51st Street.  Class begins at 9:00AM each day and ends at 5:00PM.

  8. Does my child need to bring their own equipment? Definitely not.  AFS provides all the equipment necessary for the camps.  Some students still wish to bring their own equipment, but we do not recommend this, as AFS cannot be responsible for any lost or damaged personal equipment.

  9. Do I need to send a lunch and snack with my child? Yes! AFS does not provide lunch for the kids.  All students do have access to a refridgerator that they can use to store their food.

In general, we recommend that each student bring a lunch with drink, small snack and water bottle to stay hydrated.

  10. What should my child wear? These are very active camps, so we recommend sneakers and comfortable clothes.  Additionally, keep in mind how hot it might be.  However, your child must be covered appropriately and in clothing free of any offensive language or imagery.  If your child comes to camp inappropriately dressed, you will be asked to bring them a change of clothes.

  11. What will my son or daughter walk away with from these camps? Other than a renewed love of filmmaking?!  Each student gets a copy of all the film projects created during their summer camp.  Additionally, all films are put on the AFS YouTube channel, so students can share their work with family and friends.  Students will also receive an AFS t-shirt.

  12. Tell me about the Friday screenings. At the end of each camp, parents, friends and family are invited to come screen the films created that week.  More information will be provided to students on the first day of camp.

  13. What is the refund policy? Refunds are available for participants cancelling up until two (2) weeks prior to the start of the specified camp minus a $20 administrative fee.  Participants cancelling less than two weeks prior will not be able to receive a refund.
