Dallas: Oak Cliff Film Festival Recurring event

The inaugural Oak Cliff Film Festival, taking place at the historic Texas Theatre, the Kessler Theater, the Bishop Arts Theater (formerly the Bluebird Theater), and the Belmont Hotel will take place during the week of June 14-17th, 2012.

The film festival will feature the very best of Oak Cliff’s theater venues, as well as highlight the popular restaurants and bars of the burgeoning Bishop Arts District. Led by the Aviation Cinemas team who took over operations at the Texas Theatre in December of 2010, the Oak Cliff Film Festival will seek to showcase “brave and independent filmmaking of all stripes” from Oak Cliff, Dallas, Denton, Austin, and Fort Worth, as well as nationally and internationally.

The Festival is backed by the 501c Oak Cliff Foundation who purchased the Texas Theatre in 2001.

Major items include:

  • Partnership with North Texas Food Bank: $5 from each badge sold will go directly to the North Texas Food Bank to feed North Texans

  • Special screening of Love and a .45 (35mm) with Cast and Crew in attendance.

  • Outdoor screening at the Dallas Zoo of Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox.

  • Experimental "Cinema 16" shorts showcase and Amos Vogel tribute at Oil & Cotton.

  • Special Balloon Program: The Black Balloon (35mm) along with The Red Balloon (35mm).

  • Filmmaking workshop at The Oak Cliff Cultural Center with Bradley Beesley, (Okie Noodling, Sweethearts of the Prison Rodeo, Fearless Freaks)

  • Live Music from New Fumes, Diamond Age, Night Game, Beau Jennings, Neeks, George Quartz, and a special live performance from My Education to the 1927 silent Murnau classic Sunrise (35mm)
