Community Film Calendar

Reform school gang leader, karate champion, lover of Elvis, go-go dancer, stunt woman, cult icon. In my book, Tura Satana towers above all other female anti-heros in the history of cinema.  She lived an incredibly full life with an almost unfathomable gusto.  On July 10th Tura would have been 74 years old had she not passed away last year.  To commemorate her birth, I invite everyone to come to the Village for a special screening of Tura's first silver screen role. 

Although she only had a small part as a prostitute in Billy Wilder's IRMA LA DOUCE, her presence electrified audiences and certainly caused Russ Meyer to take notice. The film, set in Paris' famous Red Light district, follows a rookie policeman (Jack Lemmon) who plots to keep a beautiful prostitute (Shirley MacLaine) all to himself in this hit comedy from director Billy Wilder.
