FIELD TRIPS & TOURS OF AUSTIN STUDIOS

The Austin Film Society offers field trips and tours of the Austin Studios for educational and community organizations. Whether it's a closer look at careers in the film industry or exploration of the complete production process, AFS is able to tailor a field trip to the interests and skill level of the students, and to connect the experience to a teacher's current lesson plans.

Who is eligible for a tour?
Groups associated with schools, universities and community organizations are able to request a tour for educational purposes. We can only accommodate groups 30 people or smaller.

If you are interested in Austin Studios rental information, please email chris@austinfilm.org

When do you do tours?
Austin Studios tours can happen year-round with the exceptions listed below.  Even so, we have a limited number of days in which we can conduct tours.  Those spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and in consideration of the Studios' production calendar.  Tours generally happen between the hours of 10am to 4pm. Please note that we are full for tours during the Spring semester.

We do not do tours: On Weekends; During SXSW; or Between June 1 - July 31.

How long is the tour?
Tours typically last 1 - 1.5 hours, depending on the interests of the tour group.

What will we see on the tour?
We begin in the AFS Screening Room, where attendees will learn the history of the Studios and an overview about the production process.  Then we will take a walking tour of the facility, seeing various sets, equipment and production activity.

Are there any specific instructions for attendees?
Yes, The Studios are a working production facility, and as such, often have filmming going on.  Field trip groups must be respectful of the people working on the lot and the production space itself, which means no loud noises or roughhousing and no touching any set pieces.  In addition, the tour involves some walking outside, so students should dress for the weather.  Students are encouraged to wear close-toed shoes, as many of the sets are under construction.

Can we take photos/video while we are there?
Photography and video are only allowed in designated areas of the studios, including the use of social media.

Please complete a tour request form if you are interested in visiting the Studios.
