Texas Motion Picture Alliance Needs Your Help

Texas is in dire need of a healthy tax incentive program for motion picture and commercial production. Otherwise, movies that want to shoot in Texas, but can't afford to, will go to other states.

An official TXMPA press release:

TXMPA CENTRAL REGION CAUCUS
Thursday, May 22, 2008 6:15- 8:00 pm
Deck at Mother Egan’s Pub
715 W 6th St, 4 blocks east of Lamar, Austin, TX 78701
(512) 478-7747

Admission: Dues-paying TXMPA members only. No admission charge. Dress: Casual

Membership dues are now required to support the operation of TXMPA. Please visit www.txmpa.org and join now. You may join at the door, however, it will help us considerably if you join online in advance. No credit cards accepted at the door- we are just not set up for it. We urge you to please join in advance on-line. Basic membership is $50.

The purpose of the meeting is three-fold:
1) To elect a Central Texas Regional Alternate Representative to the board of the Texas Motion Picture Alliance. (The Alternate Rep stands in for the Regional Rep when the Regional Rep is unavailable to attend a board meeting.) The term is two years.
2) To nominate up to three candidates from our region who will then run for the three at-large positions open on the TXMPA board. Each term is two years. Our nominees will participate in the state-wide election June 28, 2008 in Austin and run against nominees from all the other Texas regions for those three director-at-large seats.
3) To get to know each other a little better & hone our focus.

Qualifications for above positions:
1) Must be a dues-paying member of TXMPA (go to www.txmpa.org to join).
2) Must live in the Central Texas Region. (For a state map showing all Texas regions go to www.txmpa.org).
3) TXMPA is serious about bringing more production business to Texas. The persons elected to the board must be serious about TXMPA. This is a working board. At-large board members and the Regional Representative and Alternate must have some time and a willingness to participate in some or all of the necessary functions: serving on committees, raising money, donating money, making calls, finding sponsors, enlisting new members, speaking to groups, planning awareness events and fundraisers, etc. TXMPA board positions are not for resume builders, but for those willing to work to increase moving image production in Texas. Board meetings are by conference call and can be twice a month or every week. No one can do all of these things, but you must be willing to be a working participant. We've already made history in our short two years of existence. Texas at last has production incentives; now we must work to keep them and increase them!

Candidates interested in the above positions, please join our organization & attend our caucus on May 22. Anyone who wants to can stand up & speak for themselves.

I know there are professionals in our region willing to come forward and work towards improving our industry for all Texans. We need your help!

Jeanette Scott, Austin Area Regional Representative js@austin.rr.com
