Thanks to the Ed Lowry Student Film Program, AFS offers complimentary LEARN memberships for full time high school & college students, as well as part time college students enrolled in film programs. Every regular AFS screening will have 20 complimentary tickets offered exclusively to AFS LEARN program members.
Students in the five-county area (Travis, Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, and Williamson counties) qualify for the program by being A) a full time high school student, or B) a full time student in any program or a part time student enrolled in a film program at one of the following institutions:
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
You can renew or activate your 2016-2017 LEARN membership at austinfilm.org/education/learn-membership by filling out a form. Upon completion, you will then submit (via email) a certificate of enrollment verification from your school’s registrar’s office (links provided above).
2017 School Year (Open Enrollment through August 15, 2017)
We process applications on a rolling basis and there is no deadline to submit your application. However, you won’t be eligible for free tickets at the cinema until we have confirmed your LEARN program membership. We will not refund tickets purchased prior to being accepted into the program.
LEARN membership registration forms are only accepted online and not accepted at the cinema. Your LEARN membership must be confirmed by our main office via email before you attend your first screening free of charge.
Your Certificate of Enrollment Verification can be obtained for free from your school’s registrar’s office.
If you are a current LEARN member, your membership will expire on August 31, 2016. Beginning on September 1, 2016, students must have a FY17 LEARN program registration in order to redeem a complimentary ticket.
Students must be enrolled in the LEARN program in order to attend any AFS screening free of charge.
LEARN program members are not eligible for membership cards or other AFS member benefits or discounts. AFS offers a student discount on our AFS “MAKE” Membership for those students who would like to take advantage of all that an AFS membership has to offer.

SUPPORTED BY THE ED LOWRY STUDENT FILM PROGRAM
This program was made possible by Michael Barker, founder and co-president of Sony Pictures Classics, and is in the spirit of continuing the work of the late Ed Lowry who, through UT's affordable and accessible Cinematexas program, turned many young film lovers into true cinephiles. AFS seeks to continue this great Austin tradition by removing cost as a barrier for students seeking to expand their film education in a theatrical environment.
*Excludes Artist Services events, Premieres, and Special Screenings.
