Using the Nutshell Technique to Structure Successful Screenplays
Veteran script consultant Jill Chamberlain discovered in her work that 99 percent of first-time screenwriters don’t know how to tell a story. What the 99 percent do instead is present a situation. In order to explain the difference, Chamberlain created the Nutshell Technique, a method whereby writers identify the eight dynamic, interconnected elements that are required to successfully tell a story.
In this information-packed seminar, Chamberlain will walk through the Nutshell Technique, looking at famous film examples and thoroughly explaining how the Technique can make or break a film script.
Participants will receive handouts containing the Nutshell Technique schematic (known as the “nutshell”) and will walk away with everything they need to know in order to use the Nutshell Technique to help them with their next screenplay. Chamberlain will work with volunteers who opt to share their story “nutshell” with the group, and she’ll demonstrate for the class how the Nutshell Technique can transform mere situations into truly compelling screenplay stories.
Appropriate for all levels of writers, from complete beginners to those who have already finished scripts.
Prerequisite: This class will refer to Tootsie and Groundhog Day. Please watch (or rewatch) Tootsie before the class, and if you’ve never seen Groundhog Day, watch it prior to the class (if you’ve previously seen Groundhog Day, no need to rewatch).
Spaces are limited. We encourage you to sign up early.
