There’s a misconception about voice acting that veteran voice artist Jessica Calvello has heard throughout her acting career: you don’t need to be an actor to be a voice actor. Untrue! Voice acting has everything to do with acting and very little to do with the voice. How so? Well! Join Jessica for the super fun “Acting With the Voice Workshop; Acting First, Voice Second” where she hopes to dispel as much of this falsity as she can. In this high-energy and quick-paced class, everything from character analysis, to in-depth scene study, to audition techniques will be studied. This is a highly interactive and movement-based class; there’ll be sitting, standing, jumping and possibly other physical (not strenuous) activity, so wear comfortable clothing. Bring a favorite monologue or poem that you feel a connection with (under 200 words in length); you’ll be performing this material (and other written material that accompanies the class) in front of an audience and on mic. If you don’t have any written material to bring, Jessica will provide. Appropriate for all levels of skill, but previous acting experience will help.

About the Instructor: Jessica Calvello
Jessica has been acting on stage, in film, and on mic since being a wee child. She holds a BFA in acting from Texas State where she studied not only a bazillion different acting techniques, but also modern and jazz ballet, musical theater (she’s a classically trained singer!) and voice, dialects & diction classes. If you watch anime, you may have heard her as Hange Zoe in the ever-popular English dubbed series currently airing Season 3 on the Toonami block of the Cartoon Network, Attack on Titan (also streaming on If you’re online, you may have heard her in a number of animated shorts from famed comic strip, Cyanide & Happiness, and if you listen to audio books, Jessica is currently narrating her first long-running audio book (9 volumes!) titled Marlowe Kana, which takes place in the cyberpunk / scifi world in a dystopian future, where Jessica acts with her voice for many, many characters (V1 is slated to come from the written pages to your ears late 2018 / early 2019).
