This 3-hour onsite class covers the history of Public Access TV and the seven Universal Representations & Warranties that inform what content may be submitted for playback on our public access channels (cablecasted through 3 cable providers) and online streaming. There will also be time to meet your fellow class attendees as well as an informal tour of Austin Public and AFS operational staff introductions.
The seven Representations & Warranties topics covered include:
1. Defamation & Invasion of Privacy laws
2. Texas state obscenities law
3. Material contrary to the law
4. Commercialism
5. Solicitation of funds
6. Unlawful copyright use
7. Immediate danger or damage
This is the one required class other than Orientation to become a Producer at Austin Public. The class is taught by Doug Gray, Austin Public’s General Manager, and there will be allotted class time at the end to answer any program questions you may have or receive an update on your program status.

Our classes do not have age limits, however, they are best suited for ages 15 and up. This class teaches the State of Texas’ Obscenities law, which contains graphic language. For minors attending classes, we require a parent or legal guardian sign THIS WAIVER. Please email a signed copy back to austinpublic@austinfilm.org or bring it in person on or before the class date.
