China/Italy, 1987, 35mm, 163 min, English, Mandarin, Japanese and Russian with English subtitles

Bernardo Bertolucci's epic about the tumultuous life and times of Pu-Yi; born into royal opulence as the heir to China's Empire, he is displaced by the Revolution and, against a backdrop of war, intrigue and political maneuvering, is reduced to becoming a simple citizen of the Republic. Winner of 9 Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director, this is a masterpiece that deserves to be seen on the big screen. Introduced by AFS Artistic Director Richard Linklater.
