About our Anniversary

Founded in 1985 by Richard Linklater, the Austin Film Society has been a vital force in the Austin and Texas film scenes for the past thirty years. While our work is still grounded in a deep appreciation for the fine arts, we’ve come a long way from our early days as nomadic 35mm warriors.

Today, we’re an AFS that: exhibits great films at AFS at the Marchesa, honors the Lone Star State’s unique contribution to the global cinema dialogue at the Texas Film Awards, manages Austin Studios and catalyzes film production in our city, helps hundreds of children find their voice through filmmaking camps and afterschool programming, nurtures promising filmmakers toward career leaps, and empowers our community to create original content via Austin Public Access.
