Tobe Hooper’s Symphony of Horror is back for its 50th Anniversary.
Shot in and around Austin on a miniscule budget for financiers whose sources of income are best not looked into, this film changed the entire trajectory of horror cinema forever. A group of young Austinites stray into the old, weird Texas hinterland for a weekend trip and are confronted with terrors beyond their imagining.
This screening at AFS Cinema will follow Mayor Kirk Watson reading a signed proclamation at City Hall earlier in the day, which will designate October 11, 2024, as “TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE Day” to honor the 50th anniversary of the film’s US premiere. The proclamation event will include AFS CEO Rebecca Campbell and AFS Lead Programmer Lars Nilsen.
