Academy Award®–winning director Michael Haneke (AMOUR, FUNNY GAMES) turns his clinical eye on Erika (Isabelle Huppert), a repressed middle-aged piano professor at a Viennese conservatory who lives under the thumb (and roof) of her domineering mother, the metronomic tedium of her life broken only by her nightly visits to sex shops. That is until her seduction at the hands of a handsome, young student (Benoît Magimel) leads her to a violent and destructive sexual awakening.
