Austin Studios is a centrally located, 20-acre film production facility including five stages, ample power, silent air conditioning and digital infrastructure throughout the lot along with 10,000 square feet of production office space. We offer areas for set construction, wardrobe, storage, an abundance of available parking, access to our world class on-site vendors, and the LARGEST cyc wall in Texas. Austin Studios provides a competitively priced production alternative to Los Angeles and other major production areas.
In March 2013, Austin Studios expanded to inclue the former National Guard Armory adding 75,000 square feet of production and office space. AFS has been planning the future “Public Face” of Austin Studios. Working closely with stakeholders from the film community, AFS identified a range of amenities desired for the “Public Face”; space program elements such as a screening room, a café/bar, classrooms, flexible spaces for conferences, meetings and events, and a “co-working” space were all identified as top priorities.
With this wish list in hand, Catherine Sckerl, AICP of Espero Planning and Design Studio led a half-day-long design charrette for approximately 40 key stakeholders in late October. Participants co-created four compelling concept designs with the help of local architects; the ideas will be drawn from as AFS moves from planning to implementation mode in 2014.
Planning activities were supported by a $75,000 matching grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. For more information about the project, please click here.
