The AFS Cinema is Austin’s only nonprofit art house theater, with a mission to bring the community together around great film. On one screen, we present new releases from international narratives to documentaries and independent films. The other screen is repertory, programmed with special series covering the gamut of film culture and history, from movements in international cinema to director retrospectives, restorations, classics and more. At our core, we seek to offer alternate perspectives from corporate and mainstream media, and support a culture that values art, artists and personal expression. Films from Texas filmmakers are frequently on our screens. We seek to be a beacon for all who value great cinema and global perspectives, and a hub for our creative community.
The AFS Cinema features a full bar, beer on tap, and an array of concessions, from traditional fare like popcorn to snacks, treats and sweets from local purveyors like Easy Tiger and Lick Honest Ice Cream.
AFS Cinema offers closed captioning devices on select films and enhanced audio headphones for all films. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org up to 72 hours prior to a screening to confirm availability.
