Presented in Partnership with Square Peg Social.
Iconoclastic director Ari Aster sits down with AFS Artistic Director Richard Linklater for a public conversation about directing and building an artistic film career in the 21st century. Ari Aster’s films, including HEREDITARY, MIDSOMMAR, BEAU IS AFRAID, and EDDINGTON, have shifted the conversation in genre filmmaking. They are heralded for their elevation of craft and searing cultural critique, which have been embraced by audiences and have galvanized younger cinema-goers both domestically and internationally.
Aster’s instincts to break boundaries and invest in film culture led him and producing partner Lars Knudsen to launch Square Peg Social, an annual industry gathering in Austin to support emerging filmmakers from around the world. Linklater and Aster will speak about creativity and artistic practice in the context of today’s film industry, and their individual visions for encouraging young artists and film culture: Linklater through Austin Film Society, and Aster with Square Peg Social.
