AFS Summer Education Series

AFS offers Continuing Education courses and workshops for those who are interested in expanding their professional skills and gaining practical training in film, TV, and digital media. The summer series will focus on a different topic each week — directing, writing, and animation — and each week-long series will include foundational lessons, new classes, and a session with an industry professional who can speak on their work in a given field all for a great value.

Week 1: DIRECTING

July 8–13

The Directing Series class passes are sold out.

Come join us for one week of Continuing Education classes on directing. The series includes hands-on training in cinematography, field lighting, and both documentary and narrative directing. Through practical training taught by instructors who are also professionals in the field, you’ll learn how to tell a compelling visual story, direct actors, and turn your concept into a reality. You’ll also get to hear from a guest director about their work and have the opportunity to ask them questions to enhance your professional development as a director. Week 2: WRITING

July 15–19

Come join us for one week of Continuing Education classes on writing. The series includes practical courses exploring “the Art of Storytelling,” screenwriting, and TV writing. You’ll learn all about screenwriting basics, story development, and what a writers’ room is like through creative exercises taught by professionals. Week 3: ANIMATION

July 22–26

Gain hands-on experience in animation with today’s digital tools in this Continuing Education series. Through the week’s classes, you’ll learn about character design, storyboarding, and both stop-motion and 3D animation from instructors who are professional animators. Explore your creativity and learn in-demand skills across comic, video game, film, and TV production.
