General AFS Donations
Your financial contribution makes it possible for you and everyone you know to Make, Watch and Love film and creative media. Donations allow us to teach over 300 students in underserved schools, screen over 200 repertory, classic and independent films, provide grants and services to emerging filmmakers, and keep Austin Studios a home for filmmaking for the region. Be a part of AFS by making a gift today!
Once a year, AFS awards grants to emerging film and video artists in the state of Texas through our AFS Grant (formerly known as the Texas Filmmakers' Production Fund, or TFPF). The Austin Film Society has now given out over $1.6 million to over 421 film and video projects since the program began in 1996.
AFS Travel Grant
Each year, more and more Texas filmmakers are showing their work at major festivals like Sundance, Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, Los Angeles, Tribeca, Slamdance and many others. But, these invitations usually come when filmmakers have exhausted their finances just getting their films finished. The Austin Film Society sets aside $10,000 annually from the funds raised for the AFS Grant to establish a travel grant program for Texas filmmakers on a rolling, year-round basis.
Ed Lowry Student Film Program
The Austin Film Society is proud to offer 20 complimentary "Ed Lowry Tickets" available for redemption to current high school and college students at every regular screening at AFS at the Marchesa theater! This program was made possible by Michael Barker, founder and co-president of Sony Pictures Classics, and is in the spirit of continuing the work of the late Ed Lowry who, through UT's affordable and accessible Cinematexas program, turned many young film lovers into true cinephiles. AFS seeks to continue this great Austin tradition by removing cost as a barrier for students seeking to expand their film education in a theatrical environment.
Corporate matching gifts are a great way for members and donors to maximize personal contributions to AFS and increase the impact of their gift. By taking advantage of a company's matching gift benefit, you may be able to double or even triple the amount of a contribution.
HOW DO I GET MY GIFT MATCHED?
First, find out if your company has a matching gift program. Contact your company’s human resources office and ask whether your company matches employee donations.
Each company has its own guidelines for employees, spouses, retirees, and widows/widowers. Most corporate procedures are simple:
1. Request a Matching Form from your company.
2. Complete and submit the form to AFS along with your gift, to:
Austin Film Society
Attn: Development Associate
1901 E 51st St
Austin, TX 78723
3. AFS will verify the completed form and return it to the company.
4. The company issues a matching gift contribution to AFS.
