HECHO EN TEJAS SHORT FILM SHOWCASE 1

HACIA EL SOL (TOWARDS THE SUN):

A 12 year old girl confronts her scarring past when she is placed at an immigrant children’s shelter for unaccompanied minors in Texas. As her future hangs in limbo, she embarks on a healing journey to recover her own sense of power through her artwork.

RETORNADOS (THE RETURNED):

RETORNADOS is a short documentary about three families who have been forced to return to Honduras, and the extremely violent conditions they fled. The film features the families’ narratives as chapters, with intimate impressions of their domestic lives and stories about their ambitions, fears, and desires for safety.

CALLING:

After a violent event comes to an end, a mother struggles to keep being a caregiver to her handicapped son.

HAKLA (STAMMER): 

After the death of his mother, Isvara (Ish) finds that dancing offers him a way to self-express and connect with others, including his stern father.  This Bolly-Latino fusion film was shot entirely in Austin, Texas with the participation of local non-actors and dancers in the community.  Actor-dancer Prayas Vats makes his acting debut working alongside California-based actor Puneet.

An undocumented teen in the US contemplates the idea of returning home for good.

Francisco Cruz is The Allied King, a prestigious role in an indigenous Zapoteca dance hailing from Oaxaca, Mexico called The Dance of the Feathers. As an anthropologist, he has an intimate knowledge and understanding of the Mexico many people don’t know about. He is from Zaachila and a descendant of the Ben’Zaa, also known as The Cloud People
