Join us as we kick off Cinema of Resistance, a once monthly series highlighting important stories about community action and organizing. An opportunity for both discussion and awareness, the series will frequently be accompanied by a post-screening community discussion. Our first Cinema of Resistance show features the film that is the definitive master class in direct action movements, David France’s brilliant, in-depth chronicle of the work of ACT-UP, which fought discrimination and government complacency during the AIDS crisis. France was a journalist who covered the epidemic as it happened, and uses intimate archival footage to give a breathtaking play-by-play of the movement’s tireless struggle to save lives.
For our post-screening discussion, guest host Chale Nafus will be joined by former ACT-UP NYC activist Brian Zabcik.
