We pay tribute to one of the great cinematic icons, the late Kirk Douglas, with these special screenings of SPARTACUS, spectacularly restored in 4K.

Douglas not only leads a phenomenal cast here, he also produced the film, and in the process helped change Hollywood history. He openly hired screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, who had been forced into professional exile by the Red Scare, and, in doing so effectively ended the Hollywood blacklist. Douglas also hired director Stanley Kubrick to direct the film, giving the 31-year old director his first mega-budget gig.

The film itself is the story of a real-life slave revolt led by the titular Spartacus (Douglas, of course) against the Roman Empire. This may be the actor’s most iconic performance, and it gives him a chance to display all of his qualities at once – his force of personality, his voice, and of course his physicality.

SPARTACUS also stars Laurence Olivier, Jean Simmons, Peter Ustinov, Charles Laughton and Tony Curtis.
