Robert Duvall delivers a great (and Academy Award-winning) performance in Horton Foote’s tale of an alcoholic country singer who tries to pull his life back together after many wasted years. Tess Harper plays the young widow and mother who gives him something to sing about again. Also with Betty Buckley, Wilford Brimley and Ellen Barkin as Duvall’s estranged daughter.
