Noir’s greatest couple, Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake, star in this complex tale woven by the genre’s finest web-spinner Raymond Chandler, whose original screenplay was nominated for an Academy Award. As always with Chandler, dialogue and interpersonal chemistry trump plausibility and coherence, and, as always with Ladd and Lake, it doesn’t matter a bit.
