Amazingly, Francis Ford Coppola’s sequel to THE GODFATHER manages to retroactively make the first film even better by deepening our understanding of the characters and their relationship to one another. Here we follow the progress of Michael Corleone and, in counterpoint, we see the early life and ascendance of his father Vito Corleone, played as a young man by Robert De Niro. Probably the greatest sequel ever, and a grandly operatic continuation of the saga.
