Back in 1971, expectations were impossibly high for Dennis Hopper’s first post-EASY RIDER film, THE LAST MOVIE, a cosmic western filmed in Peru with a cast of Hopper’s friends and fellow travelers. When it finally hit theaters after a long process of editing, re-editing and re-re-editing – sometimes under the tutelage of his friend Alejandro Jodorowsky, Hopper’s moment had largely passed. Even though it won the Critics’ Award at the Venice Film Festival, it did not please American audiences or critics. But steadily, over the years, THE LAST MOVIE’s reputation has grown, even though it remained obscure and hard to see. Now, with this new restoration, you can finally see the film for yourself. In addition to Hopper, the film stars Kris Kristofferson, Sylvia Miles, Peter Fonda, Michelle Phillips, Samuel Fuller and many others. With beautiful cinematography by László Kovács.
