3x Bogdanovich, hosted by Richard Linklater

There are no current or future screenings planned for this film.

At only 32 years of age, and buoyed by the major commercial and critical success of THE LAST PICTURE SHOW, Peter Bogdanovich released his follow-up, a throwback to the screwball comedies of the ’30s and ’40s, this time starring Barbra Streisand as an adorable troublemaker who latches on to an uptight musicologist played by Ryan O’Neal. Around them swirls a milieu of thieves, mistaken identities, and romantic complications. Bogdanovich, using the methods perfected by his filmmaking hero Howard Hawks, plays the situation like a Stradivarius. Unsurprisingly, the film was an enormous hit with audiences and it still delights today. Written by Buck Henry, David Newman and Robert Benton, shot by Laszlo Kovacs, and edited by Verna Fields, this is Hollywood filmmaking at an extraordinarily high level.

AFS Founder and Artistic Director Richard Linklater will introduce WHAT’S UP, DOC? and participate in an onstage discussion after the screening.

**Criterion Collection will be filming a segment for ART-HOUSE AMERICA on The AFS Cinema
