AUSTIN FILM SOCIETY CELEBRATES THE 12TH ANNIVERSARY OF BOYHOOD WITH SPECIAL REUNION EVENT ON JULY 18

Red Carpet, Film Screening, and Live Q&A to Feature Director Richard Linklater and Stars Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette, and Ellar Coltrane
 

AUSTIN, TEXAS (June 23, 2026)—Austin Film Society (AFS) will host a special screening and anniversary celebration of BOYHOOD on July 18, marking 12 years since the release of the landmark coming-of-age drama directed by AFS founder Richard Linklater. The one-night-only event reunites the film’s cast and creators in Austin ahead of its nationwide theatrical re-release.

The evening will feature a red carpet, special screening, and live Q&A with director Richard Linklater and stars Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette and Ellar Coltrane, moderated by AFS Lead Programmer Lars Nilsen. Filmed across Central Texas over a 12-year period, BOYHOOD remains one of the most ambitious and celebrated achievements in independent cinema.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. with a red carpet, followed by the film screening at 5 p.m. and an in-person Q&A with the filmmaker and cast immediately following the screening. There is a limited number of tickets for this BOYHOOD reunion event. Seats are currently only available through a special giving opportunity. “This moment is a celebration of the enduring power of Richard Linklater’s visionary work,” said Holly Herrick, Head of Film and Creative Media at Austin Film Society. “12 years to the month since we hosted the theatrical premiere of BOYHOOD at the AFS Cinema, we will be hosting a milestone reunion of this iconic Texas film, a treasure of our state’s cultural heritage.”

Since its 2014 release, BOYHOOD has earned six Academy Award nominations, with Patricia Arquette winning Best Supporting Actress, and three Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture – Drama. The Q&A recorded at the July 18 AFS event will be presented at participating theaters nationwide, including AFS Cinema, as part of IFC Entertainment Group’s national theatrical rerelease of BOYHOOD beginning July 31. The full reunion conversation will also be available for a future exclusive presentation attached to BOYHOOD, on streaming service Sundance Now.
