Austin, TX – (February 14, 2019) The Austin Film Society (AFS) today announced the addition of presenters and special guests for the 2019 Texas Film Awards, including Academy Award®-winning actress Kathy Bates; actress June Diane Raphael; actors Ron Livingston, Gary Cole, and David Herman, comedian Marc Maron and writer/director/actress Lynn Shelton. The Texas Film Awards will take place on Thursday, March 7, at 6 p.m. at the AFS Cinema. The event features red carpet arrivals and a cocktail party, followed by dinner and the awards ceremony in AFS Cinema’s Event Hall.

Academy Award®-winning actress and Tony Award®-nominee Kathy Bates will join AFS to honor her long-time collaborator, Texas born and raised filmmaker John Lee Hancock, who is being inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame. The duo worked together in the Academy Award®-nominated film The Blind Side and recently collaborated on the upcoming film The Highwaymen, also starring Woody Harrelson and Kevin Costner. The Highwaymen tells the untold true story of the legendary Texas Rangers who brought down Bonnie and Clyde, and will premiere at SXSW, and launch globally on Netflix on March 29, 2019. Bates is also known for her work on Misery, Titanic, American Horror Story, and Six Feet Under.
Actress, comedian, screenwriter, and producer June Diane Raphael will join AFS to celebrate her Grace and Frankie co-star Brooklyn Decker, who will receive the “Rising Star Award” at the Texas Film Awards. On Grace and Frankie, now in its fifth season on Netflix, Raphael stars as Brianna, Jane Fonda’s bold entrepreneurial daughter. She will next be seen in the Seth Rogen/Charlize Theron film, Long Shot which will be released on May 3, 2019. She has guest starred on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Lady Dynamite, New Girl, The League, Flight of the Conchords, American Dad! and The Muppets and also appeared in films including The Disaster Artist, Blockers, Zodiac, Bachelorette, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
Actors Ron Livingston, Gary Cole, and David Herman will be joining the Texas Film Awards’ 20th Anniversary celebration of Office Space.
Livingston starred in the Office Space as Peter, a cubicle dweller at a tech firm who becomes hilariously disaffected with his job after a hypnosis session goes awry. He currently stars in the original series Loudermilk for AT&T Audience Network and DJ Nash’s acclaimed ensemble ABC series A Million Little Things. Livingston recently starred in Producer-Director Jason Reitman’s latest dramedy Tully opposite Charlize Theron and wrapped production on the independent films Holly Slept Over and The Long Dumb Road. He starred as Captain Lewis Nixon in the HBO TV series Band of Brothers, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category. He also starred as Jack Berger on the ever popular HBO series Sex and the City, opposite Sarah Jessica Parker and as a new series regular on the HBO series Boardwalk Empire, which garnered a SAG Award nomination in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series category. Additional film credits include: The Conjuring, Swingers, Adaptation, The Cooler, The Time Traveler’s Wife, Dinner for Schmuck’s, Drinking Buddies, and The Odd Life of Timothy Green.
SAG-Award® winning actor Gary Cole played Office Space’s Bill Lumbergh, the quintessential horrible boss. Cole, whose career has spanned theater, film, and television since the 1980s, has recently been celebrated for his role on HBO’s comedy series Veep, in which he plays senior strategist Kent Davidson. He has starred and held recurring roles in a number of other celebrated television shows, including Suits, The West Wing, Desperate Housewives, Wanted, and American Gothic. Cole has appeared and starred in dozens of films; he is known for his comedy roles in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Pineapple Express, and The Brady Bunch movies, as Mike Brady. He is starring in the CBS series, Fam.
David Herman co-starred in Office Space as Michael Bolton, an unfortunately named tech firm employee. Herman is an actor and comedian who worked with Mike Judge on the Fox television show, King of the Hill, before collaborating with Judge on both Office Space and Idiocracy (in which he appeared as the Secretary of State). An original cast member of MadTV, Herman was a regular voice in the animated comedy series Futurama (1999–2013) and currently voices characters in dozens of shows including Bob’s Burgers (2011–present), Paradise PD (2018–present), and Disenchantment (2018–present).
Comedian Marc Maron, best known for his hit podcast, WTF with Marc Maron and the hit Netflix original series, Glow, will MC the event with writer/actor/director Lynn Shelton. Shelton, who directed Humpday, Laggies and Your Sister’s Sister, will premiere her newest film, Sword of Trust, at SXSW. The film stars Marc Maron, alongside Michaela Watkins, Jillian Bell and Jon Bass.

Kathy Bates
Honored numerous times for her work, Kathy is an undeniable force on stage, screen and television. Bates won an Academy Award® and a Golden Globe® for her portrayal of obsessed fan ‘Annie Wilkes’ in Rob Reiner’s 1990 hit Misery, based on Stephen King’s novel.
On television Bates has received 14 Emmy® nominations, winning her first in 2003 playing ‘Ghost of Charlie Harper’ in Chuck Lorre’s Two and a Half Men. Bates won rave reviews and her second Emmy® as the deliciously evil ‘Madame LaLaurie’ in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Coven on FX. She received two more Emmy® nods for ‘Ethel’ in American Horror Story: Freak Show and ‘Iris’ in Hotel.

For the past several years, Bates has served as a Spokesperson for the Lymphatic Education and Research Network (LE&RN). LE&RN is an internationally recognized non-profit organization founded in 1998 to fight lymphatic diseases and lymphedema through education, research and advocacy. With chapters throughout the world, LE&RN seeks to accelerate the prevention, treatment and cure of these diseases while bringing patients and medical professionals together to address the unmet needs surrounding lymphatic diseases, which include lymphedema and lipedema.
June Diane Raphael
June Diane Raphael is an actress, comedian, screenwriter, and producer. Currently, June co-stars in the hit Netflix series Grace and Frankie as Brianna, Jane Fonda’s bold entrepreneurial daughter, which premiered its fifth season on 1/18. She will next be seen in the Seth Rogen/Charlize Theron film, Long Shot which will be released on May 3, 2019. In addition, she is co-authoring a book to help women get into politics titled, The Woman’s Guide to Running for Office and Changing the World, which will be released September 3.
Other notable achievements include 2013 Sundance Film, Ass Backwards, which she co-wrote and starred in with her creative partner, Casey Wilson.
Her guest star appearances bring in some of the seasons highest ratings thanks to her perfect comedic timing. She guest starred on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Lady Dynamite, New Girl as Dr. Sadie (the lesbian gynecologist and friend of Jess and CeCe), The League as Pam, Flight of the Conchords, American Dad! and The Muppets as Lucy Royce, Head of ABC.

Ron Livingston
Ron Livingston stars in the original series Loudermilk for AT&T Audience Network, which recently wrapped production on season two, and will begin filming season three this summer. The scripted half-hour comedy series from Peter Farrelly and Bobby Mort airs exclusively on both DirectTV and DirectTV Now. Additionally, he can be seen in DJ Nash’s acclaimed ensemble ABC series A Million Little Things which was just picked up for a second season. Livingston can also currently be seen in the Sam Elliott film The Man Who Killed Hitler and then The Bigfoot. Last May, Livingston co-starred in Producer-Director Jason Reitman’s latest dramedy Tully opposite Charlize Theron. This Focus Feature marked the fourth collaboration between Reitman and Writer-Producer Diablo Cody and also starred McKenzie Davis and Mark Duplass. Livingston recently wrapped production on the independent films Holly Slept Over and The Long Dumb Road.
As Captain Lewis Nixon in the 2001 HBO TV series Band of Brothers, Livingston was nominated for a Golden Globe in the Best Supporting Actor category. The critically acclaimed series won the Emmy and Golden Globe for best mini-series that year. That fall, Livingston took a memorable turn as Jack Berger on the ever popular HBO series Sex and the City opposite Sarah Jessica Parker. Over the years, he returned to HBO as a new series regular on the acclaimed series Boardwalk Empire where he went on to garner a SAG Award® Nomination in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series category, as well as co-starring in the multiple award-winning Game Change along with Ed Harris, Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson, and Sarah Paulson.

Gary Cole
Best known for his film roles in classic cult comedies such as Office Space, Pineapple Express, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Gary Cole is a veteran of both the screen and the stage. As an ensemble member of Steppenwolf Theater Company, Cole’s theater credits include August: Osage County, Collected Works of Billy the Kid, Speed the Plow, American Buffalo, Flyovers, and Balm in Gilead. Additional film credits include: American Pastime, Breach, The Ring 2, Crazy in Love, Win a Date With Tad Hamilton!, I Spy, One Hour Photo, The Gift, A Simple Plan, Kiss the Sky, The Brady Bunch Movie, and Clint Eastwood’s In the Line of Fire. Television credits include: Midnight Caller, American Gothic, The West Wing, The Good Wife, True Blood, Suits and is currently starring in HBO’s VEEP and CBS’s Fam. Cole is also recurring on Chicago Fire and Good Life and can be seen in the upcoming film, The Art of Racing in The Rain starring alongside Milo Ventimiglia and Amanda Seyfried.
David Herman
Comedian David Herman was born on February 20, 1967, in New York, New York. He graduated from LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts in 1985. He landed a role as one of the eight original cast members on Fox’s late night sketch comedy show MADtv (1995). After spending two full seasons on the show, he left, like most of the original cast. In 1997, he began doing voicework on the Fox animated sitcom King of the Hill (1997), where he met writer/director/actor Mike Judge. Judge was so impressed with Herman that he cast him in a supporting role as Michael Bolton in his critically acclaimed, cult classic 1999 comedy, Office Space (1999). Also in 1999, he began doing voices for the now-canceled Fox animated sitcom Futurama (1999). He currently resides in Los Angeles, California, where he still supplies voices for Disenchantment (2018), Paradise PD (2018), and countless other animated series.
Marc Maron
For over thirty years, Marc Maron has been writing and performing comedy for print, stage, radio, online and television. Best known for his hit landmark podcast, WTF with Marc Maron, he has interviewed iconic personalities such as Conan O’Brien, Robin Williams, Keith Richards, Ben Stiller, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lorne Michaels and former US President Barack Obama. It has become a worldwide phenomenon: averaging six million downloads each month, with nearly 450 million lifetime downloads.
Maron currently stars in the hit Netflix original series GLOW, alongside Alison Brie and Betty Gilpin, and his critically acclaimed half-hour scripted television series Maron aired on IFC and can be found on Netflix. He also stars in upcoming movie The Joker alongside Robert De Niro and Joaquin Phoenix, and in upcoming crime drama Wonderland, alongside Mark Wahlberg.

Lynn Shelton
Lynn Shelton has directed eight feature films including HUMPDAY, YOUR SISTER’S SISTER, TOUCHY FEELY, LAGGIES, OUTSIDE IN and the upcoming SWORD OF TRUST. Her work has screened at festivals such as TIFF, Sundance, Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, Slamdance, SXSW, and Deauville, and picked up honors at several of those, as well as garnered two Independent Spirit Awards—the Acura Someone To Watch Award and the John Cassavetes Award. Shelton has directed a number of television shows, including Mad Men, Master of None, Casual, Love, Santa Clarita Diet, The Mindy Project, New Girl, Shameless, Maron, Fresh Off The Boat, and GLOW.
