The 23rd Street Mural Project turns Austin’s first mural into a living documentary archive. Visitors can explore the wall online and discover short original films about the characters, venues, musicians, and wild stories — some of which may actually be true — that helped shape the soul of the city. It’s a way of preserving Austin history while connecting the dots between the Austin of the ’70s and the city we live in today.

Join us for the premiere of five new original docs before they become part of 23rdstreetmural.com. The mural itself has never really sat still. Since 1974, it’s been restored, repainted, and updated five times, with new faces, new buildings, and more Austin armadillo eggs finding their way onto the wall. Season 2 keeps that tradition going online, adding new films about legendary clubs, queens, killers, a real-life miracle, and a whole lotta mescaline. Narrated by Skip Hollandsworth and featuring original music by The Octopus Project. With a post-screening Q&A with project director Mike Woolf and artist Kerry Awn.
