Filmmakers have long recognized that cinema is a doorway to the metaphysical, and that the immersive nature of the medium can bring us closer to the spiritual realm. Inspired by the release of Texas filmmaker David Lowery’s A GHOST STORY, in which ghosts confront the profound mystery of time, we selected four global masterpieces from cinema history that also conjure the spirits. These transcendent films, which deal with existential questions in creative and enlightening ways, are in and of themselves captivating, spiritual experiences for the audience.
