You wouldn’t know it from his sly humor and indomitable spirit, but Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi has had to overcome many obstacles placed in his way by his own government in order to make his unique features. Jail, exile, in-house detention; all of it seems to merely provide more material for Panahi, whose freedom to create has become an international cause célèbre.
