In character design, artists will have a chance to explore the understanding of shape and color theories and how they apply to the creation or improvement of characters. We will explore the development of original characters and improvement of your existing characters and how to make those characters relatable and relevant, while ensuring that you can convince the audience to invest in the characters’ growth and outcome. We will study the success of existing characters and compare those to the success of more contemporary characters with emphasis on comics and animated films. This class will require a fundamental understanding of figure drawing and basic rendering techniques.
This class will cover topics including:
- Identify shape motifs
- Explain how appeal is utilized
- Apply solid drawing techniques to a design
