In this introductory course, students will explore the fundamentals of 2D animation for games using beginner-friendly tools. They’ll learn how to create simple character animations and see how those animations are used in game development. By the end of the class, students will bring their animated characters into a working game project and experience their creations in motion.
This class will cover topics including:
- Overview of 2D Animation for Games
- Getting started with Piskel app
- Creating a walk cycle
- Designing a secondary animation
- Importing into Construct 3
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Andrew Augustin is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Arts and Entertainment Technologies department at the University of Texas at Austin. Augustin is a 2D illustrator and game designer with a rich history of conceptualizing and creating compelling characters, notably for The Sims 3: Pets. As the founder of Notion Games LLC, he’s launched unique titles like Team Notion and the Super Ubie Island series. He was recognized on the Forbes “30 Under 30” and Black Enterprise “Modern Man” lists and is a featured contributor in Innovate Gaming and Esports Vol. 1. Currently, he’s helping to mold the next generation of talent.
