About the Instructor: Samuel Díaz Fernández

Samuel Díaz Fernández is a Colombian director, producer, and cinematographer whose work explores equity, nature, and memory. His short films include La Cosecha (SXSW 2021), Floodplain (Silver Anthem Award 2024), and Una Nave Frágil (supported by the National Geographic Society, 2025). He co-directed Boca Chica (PBS 2024) and is currently co-directing “Where the Sun Sets”, an AFS-supported feature doc on ethnic minority communities in Southeast Asia. His films have screened at festivals such as Big Sky, Wildscreen, and the New York Latino Film Festival. A Nat Geo Explorer, TEDx speaker, and founder of the School of Slow Media, Fernández also recently co-founded CAUCE, a development incubator focused on stories from the natural world for and from Latin America.
