Homo Arigato  Contrast Fest

There are no current or future screenings planned for this film.

Due to a mechanical failure, this screening will now be presented digitally.

Anna Biller, director of THE LOVE WITCH, curated this special screening of the 1933 film by Michael Curtiz (CASABLANCA). In this pre-code film, Ruth Chatterton plays a female CEO of a car company who calls all the shots in both the boardroom and in the bedroom. On the film, Biller states, “I’ve never seen anything like it, and it’s definitely forward-thinking and feminist in a way that I think will surprise modern viewers.”

Preceded by: THREE EXAMPLES OF MYSELF AS QUEEN (d. Anna Biller. USA. 1994) & A VISIT FROM THE INCUBUS (d. Anna Biller. USA. 2001), and a newly restored version of FAIRY BALLET (d. Anna Biller. USA. 1998)

Presented as part of the Contrast Film Festival, highlighting boundary-pushing, genre-defying, and forward-thinking art with an emphasis on female & queer creators. More information about the festival HERE
