Jafar Panahi, playing himself as a film director under house arrest in Iran, is trying to make a film remotely via livestream with frustrating results. When he attempts to cross the border to direct his subjects directly, he finds himself in a village quarrel. A meta-narrative about Panahi’s own struggles that somehow also succeeds as an absurdist comedy.
