Long overshadowed by the cinematic culture of other Latin American countries, the film heritage of Mexico is becoming clearer in its value and import as more restorations of key works are completed and more important scholarship appears. No scholar has been more important to this renaissance than our series co-programmer Charles Ramírez Berg, author of The Classical Mexican Cinema: The Poetics of the Exceptional Golden Age Films (2015, University of Texas Press) and a founding Board Member of the Austin Film Society.
