The 2010 TFPF cycle will begin in the Spring.

Below, for reference, is information on eligibility for the 2009 grant cycle.

2009 Eligibility and Restrictions

  • You must be a resident of Texas and have been a resident since June 1, 2008.
  • Application must be made by the creative author of the final work. This is typically defined as the director. Producers, editors, crew people, and writers who are not in creative control of the final project are not eligible to apply. Awards will not be made to organizations. The applicant name(s) will appear with the project on all publicity materials when TFPF 2009 recipients are announced.
  • All genres of film or video are given equal consideration. We are unable to consider multimedia projects at this time.
  • Projects must be independent productions. “Independent production” means a production under the artistic, budgetary and editorial control of the individual owning copyright. No consideration will be given to industrial or promotional pieces or “works-for-hire.”
  • Application must be for the production, post-production or distribution stages. No consideration will be given for applications requesting pre-production or development funds. Applicants requesting funds for distribution must provide footage from the submitted project in their video sample.
  • AFS staff, Board members and TFPF interns are ineligible to apply.

Previous TFPF recipients

  • TFPF grants a maximum of 2 awards to an individual project. That means you can potentially receive TFPF funding twice (in different years of course) for the same project, for the same or different stages of production.
  • Additionally, previous TFPF recipients are not eligible to apply for funding on a new project until the previous project is completed.

What’s New for 2009?

Each year we review and update our guidelines. Please note the following changes for this year’s grant cycle:
  • We are lowering the maximum for individual grants back down to $15,000 from $25,000. In the two years we had the $25,000 grant limit, our panel did not decide to give out a grant of that size, so we are going back to the previous number. HOWEVER, this means that short films no longer have a lower cash ceiling than features - you can still ask for up to $15,000 in cash for a short.
  • Paperwork reduction! We now only require four (4) copies of the application and required attachments (project description, budget, timeline, personnel page) rather than five copies. BUT...
  • We now require that you submit 3 copies of your video sample, rather than 2 copies. And, if you choose to submit a treatment or script (it's optional), we will need 3 copies of that, too. (okay, maybe it won't be a paper-work reduction for everybody).
Please contact us if you have any questions at tfpf@austinfilm.org.
