Newly restored. Donna Deitch’s 1985 film DESERT HEARTS was ahead of its time in its portrayal of a woman who goes to Nevada to get a divorce and becomes enmeshed in a romance with a high spirited local woman.

The August 27th screening of DESERT HEARTS will have an introduction from Dr. Mocha Jean Herrup.

Dr. Mocha Jean Herrup is a film professor at the Austin Community College. S/he began her/his professional LGBTQ “career” working for Killer Films, a powerhouse of “New Queer Cinema,” in New York as a terrified intern and in Austin as a programmer for AGLiFF, making queer documentaries, and co-founding (with K. Bradford) the drag king troupe, Kings ‘N Things. S/he is still deciding the pronoun thing.
