History Of Television: THE YEAR OF THE SEX OLYMPICS

History of Television

There are no current or future screenings planned for this film.

Join us for another free online installment of our History of Television series.

This time, we are again joined by television scholar and archivist Amanda Reyes as we watch and provide interstitial commentary about one of the more bizarre television programs ever broadcast, the 1968 BBC television play THE YEAR OF THE SEX OLYMPICS, written by Nigel Kneale (THE QUATERMASS EXPERIMENT, THE STONE TAPE.) THE YEAR OF THE SEX OLYMPICS is a considerably ahead-of-its time social satire that anticipates reality television and its social impact. We will be broadcasting the only surviving transcription of the program, a black and white videogram preserved from 16mm film.

This is an online only event. You may watch it in one of the following ways.

  1. Tune in to Austin Public Channel 11, either on your Time Warner-equipped cable television or on Austin Public’s web stream here.
  2. Watch on Twitch here.
